One pound of fat = 3500 calories.
If you have an excess of 3500 calories, you will gain a pound of fat.
If you have a deficit of 3500 calories, you will lose a pound of fat.
Eating more calories and exercising less will create an excess.
Eating less calories and exercising more will create a deficit.
but simple doesn't mean it's easy.
