Don't be afraid to change your goals when you find they are no longer serving the right purpose for you. It's not the same as "quitting". Quitting is looking at the here and now and giving up when things get tough. Changing goals is looking ahead and intentionally going in a different direction or doing things a little differently to get you to where you want to go. Sometimes it's just a matter of changing some goals as we find a better way to reach our dreams. And sometimes it's even changing our dreams. When we realize we've chosen the wrong one, or we discover another one we want more, or we simply go through our next season in life. Some dreams span a whole lifetime, while others are only for a season of our life. So don't get trapped by being locked into certain goals and dreams you've set. Every now and then, evaluate where you are currently going in your life and compare it to where you are wanting to go. Then adjust your sails and navigate accordingly. :) Choose a goal. (Something small and achievable.) Plan time for it. (Schedule it in like any other appointment on your calendar.) Do it. (Follow through. Don't let anything else interfere.) Most of the chipmunks kept darting around quite a bit, but one little fellow in particular seemed to enjoy our company as much as we enjoyed his. He tended to hang around a bit more than the others. I think he had fun entertaining us for awhile. :) Although it was nice weather with blue skies and some puffy white clouds when we headed up, there was a 20% chance of thunderstorms that afternoon. When the darker clouds began rolling in and we started hearing thunder, we decided it was time to skedaddle back down. Rain and thunder don't bother me, but I don't much care for lightning and high winds when I'm out on the mountain. Back to safer ground we go. I took this picture on our way back down as the clouds continued moving over the top of us and over the valley below to the Sapphire Mountains on the other side. We continued to hear thunder a bit here and there and felt a few drops of rain, but we made it back to the trailhead before things let loose. While driving home, things really came undone as it rained hard enough to reduce visibility to the point we almost had to pull over and wait it out. Funny how fast the weather can change out here! Believing is power. If you believe you can do something, you will work harder for it. If you work harder for it, you will go farther and accomplish so much more. But you gotta believe. I believe everyone has a dream somewhere deep down inside. But some haven't discovered theirs yet; they just don't know it's there. Look deep enough and you will find yours. What better thing to do with a good friend than to go for a little hike to a special place by the refreshing creek to enjoy lunch with some enjoyable conversation, a little exploring around, and a bit of fishing? I love the sights and sounds of water spilling and splashing over rock. Especially when it's combined with the solitude of having the place to ourselves, completely out of view from the trail. The shorter hike with lack of time constraints on this trip allowed more time to relax by the water doing "not much of anything" for a couple of hours. Water and rock in summer means bare feet and fooling around. Dana enjoys sharing tips with the girls and showing them how to fish. Walking upstream a bit, I discovered a lovely little pool of water that had been hidden from view until I was suddenly upon it. It was completely round and even had a flat bench rock that was dry and curved around the one end to sit on. (As seen in the photo, there was also a large rock in the water if you preferred to be wet.) Needless to say, we had a great time! Every time we come here the water level has changed, revealing different lovely spots to hang out for awhile. I wonder what little gem of a place we will discover next time we come? Stop settling for good enough. Reach higher. That's how dreams come true. Even turtle steps will get you somewhere if you keep going in the right direction. Keep going. I got the opportunity to watch and photograph this owl in western Montana today. I'm always fascinated with how keenly aware owls are of their surroundings. And it's interesting to watch them blink, turn their heads, fly, and hear them hoot in the night. |
