Searching for an old cabin on Little Saint Joe

9/3/2014

Summer is over and fall is now here in our neck of the woods of Western Montana.

Which is, of course, the perfect season for hiking! :)

I went for another hike up Little Saint Joe the other day with my younger girls and adult son. This time we weren't going to the top, but rather heading out in search of an old cabin built by the Rocky Mountaineers for winter use by backcountry skiers and snowboarders.

It was a gorgeous day to be out, and we enjoyed it tremendously!

We hiked ...

... we picked huckleberries ...

... we relaxed by a fire ...

... we admired the views from numerous rock outcroppings ...

... we snacked by a small mountain stream ...

... we hiked before, after, and in between all of that ...
... and we found the cabin.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Debbie! While I love the photos, it just isn't possible for the camera to really capture what the eye sees out there. So much of the depth is lost, and the eye can see many things the photos just don't show. So many times, I see fascinating things and go to take a picture, but then remember "no, this won't show up how I see it", and don't bother. So I spend a lot of time really taking it all in. I love the mountains; Montana truly is my home! But I do tend to take a LOT of photos. After sorting the photos for this one trip, I narrowed them down to 70 pictures. Makes it hard to choose just a few pics for a blog post! LOL! :) More to come soon... and more photo cards to come when I get time to get prints ordered and cards made. :)

Incredible photos, Nikki! Please send me a jar of those fresh picked huckleberries. Just reading about them made my mouth water. I remember scrambling around in the Ozarks when I was a child, picking those ripe juicy little berries. Yummmmmm!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, Anna! Would love to send you some huckleberries if I could. We do gather some to take home for ourselves, but not many, as most get eaten as fast as they get picked! LOL! I guess that's why huckleberries sell for such a premium price around here! Gotta watch out for the bears out there... they love huckleberry patches too! :)

Looks like a beautiful trail and destination and great company to share the journey. I also enjoy getting out and about in September when one is a little less likely to encounter lightning up high. There's nothing like a view from some high ground. I enjoyed your post.

What beautiful scenery! I love to travel out west. We don't have anything like that around here.
