Heading way back into the mountains is the best way to find solitude, but when we don't have enough time for that, we discovered we can find a bit of solitude even on the busiest of trails by going up, up, up on the side until we get far enough away that we are out of sight and sound of the trail below. The mountainsides are pretty sloped, but we explore around until we find a wonderful flat spot or rock area from which we can enjoy the views. On this afternoon hike up a very familiar trail close to home, we spent about two hours hiking and exploring, and an hour and a half basking in the beautiful sunshine, enjoying the peaceful views and the sounds of the creek running along the bottom of the canyon below. |

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." --Mark Twain
I find making plans to be the easy part. The hard part is sticking with it, day after day, week after week. Yes, sometimes plans need a little adjustment and fine-tuning along the way. But I find the biggest reason that plans don't work out, is that we don't stick with them long enough. See what happens when you make a plan, fine-tune it, and then stick with it. The result of following a plan is the sweet reward of progress. :) To make your plan work, you gotta work your plan!
"Success doesn't just come and find you, you have to go out and get it." If we want success in whatever it is we are pursuing, we can't just sit by and wait for it to come to us. It just doesn't happen that way. We have to put in the time. We have to do the hard work. We have to push through our obstacles. We have to find a way when it all looks hopeless. We have to keep going when we feel like quitting. It's nothing new. We all know success doesn't come easily. But it is within reach for those who believe and go the distance. Don't wait for success to find you. Go out and get it.
