rainy evening at lake como. november 2019.

We had a little extra time after hiking up Tin Cup today, so I decided to swing by Lake Como on our way home. As we got closer to the lake, the wind and rain were moving in, and the temperature was quickly dropping. When I realized the weather wasn't going to be what I had expected, I decided to go anyway. And I'm so glad we went. When I'm busy looking for fair-weather days for hiking, I can sometimes forget how enjoyable the atmosphere of inclement weather can be. One sure way to be reminded is to just get out in the middle of it. Which is what we did today. So much so, I didn't want to leave! :)

I discovered this whimsical rock spiral on the beach and enjoyed following the path to the rock cairn in the center. Just a little carefree fun that brought me an extra smile. :)

Enjoying the moment. -- The evening chill with the wind and the rain as we followed the shoreline listening to the water splashing on the rocks was an awesome experience to end our day. A little reminder that nature is beautiful in all sorts of weather. Enjoy! :)

Beautiful view further into the canyon up Rock Creek past Lake Como. I need to come back and see this with snow. :)

Our morning began with rain and a rainbow as we were getting ready to leave for our hike.

Como Peaks have a bit of snow now. You get a glimpse of one along the trail.

There's always something to catch my eye for a photo, and if there is rock and water around, you are sure to find me there!

I love the beauty and contrast of water and moss!

Drying out drenched pant legs in a rock field after pushing through a lot of overgrowth on the trail still wet from the rain.

A lovely place with a view (and wind) we discovered up and away from the trail on our off-trail excursion.

We're always checking our topo maps to see exactly where we are and what is in view. :)

Three female mergansers enjoying a bit of sunshine on their little rock island in the lake. A little brisk for swimming. ;)

Hiking along the north side of Lake Como on our way out. There's water at the east end, and mostly mud at the west end.

As usual, we had a blast! Until next time... :)
