climbing on outermost limits wall up kootenai.

We don't have a lot of available time for all-day climbs very often, so we usually work our rock climbing into little bits here and there, getting out in the evenings after supper or for a morning or afternoon when we can. These photos are of two separate climbs we did recently on Outermost Limits Wall in Kootenai Canyon, at a route called Sleeping Beauty.

This area is featured in a local newspaper:

Hard rock fans: Rock climbing draws enthusiasts to Kootenai Canyon.

You have to cross the creek to access this climbing area, which is not advisable during the rushing high water in spring and early summer. In late summer and fall, the creek is low enough to get across on rocks, and slow enough to not sweep you away if you slip on a wet rock and slide in.

Rock climbing involves plenty of book learning in addition to hands on learning.

It's pretty exciting when you're able to do more than you thought you could.

We have plenty of challenges and lots of encouragement along the way.

The more we climb, the more we improve. Everyone did great and we had a lot of fun.

With our decreasing daylight this time of year, we ended up coming back out in the dark with our headlamps after getting the rope down and gathered back up on a recent evening climb. There certainly are a lot of toads hanging out on the trail at night! LOL! :)
