The patience and perseverance of a heron fishing or hunting is incredible. I've watched them more times than I can keep track of, and I often give up watching before they get their reward. But many times I've witnessed them get their catch, as I did this one yesterday. Their patience is not passive, even though it may appear so. They may be standing quite still for a long time, but they are not idle. They are fully intent and concentrating, watching every little movement while waiting for the right moment to act. They are simultaneously doing and waiting (patience), and they keep at it until they achieve success (perseverance). Giving up is not an option. Neither should it be for us. |
