We squeezed in another quick little hike between some errands we had to do the other day down south. The weather forecast was partly sunny, so Lake Como it was. :)

Picture
The snow covered trail was pretty good, so no traction devices were needed.

The peaks have an extra touch of beauty with snow!

I love hiking with my family! :)

We get some sunshine and views of the lake here and there between the trees.

Just a little foolin' around at the lake. :)

Some days, weeks, months ... can just seem so extra busy at times.

So one of my daughters and I decided to pop over to Lake Como for a bit after an appointment today. We didn't have a lot of time, but we took advantage of the chance we got to add a little sunshine and outdoor enjoyment to our day.

Look for the little moments. :)

It was a beautiful, sunny day for our afternoon hike earlier this week.
And as a bonus, Jamie and I enjoyed having the trail completely to ourselves.
(Except for several deer.)

Picture
We had a few small stretches of bare ground, but most of the trail was snow-covered.

Hiking is a rejuvenating way to spend time, any season of the year. :)

Picture
In the beginning, you get glimpses through the trees.

Picture
Further along the way, things begin to open up for a bit.

Picture
Let it blow! The bursts of strong wind felt wonderful in the warmth of sunshine.

Picture
Jamie gets a bit blinded with the combination of sunshine and snow.

Picture
As the trail comes closer to the lake, the snowy slope merges right into the snowy lake.

Picture
The snow deepens the farther in we go.
We missed getting photos of the deepest part, though.

Picture
The closer we get to the southern ridge near the western end of the lake,
the more the sun disappears on us behind the ridge.

(Several lakes are in my plans for a future backpack trip.)

Mounding snow is such a beautiful part of winter.

The inlet where Rock Creek flows into the west end of Lake Como.

Picture
The railing on the bridge really shortens with the build-up of snow.

Picture
We chose a sunny spot with a view for our break and plopped down on the snow. :)

Picture
Late afternoon quickly turns into early evening on our way back out.

Picture
I love the play of texture on the snowy lake in the diminishing sunlight.

Picture
And the snowy peaks with the glow of fading light are lovely, too.

I hope you enjoyed coming along on our little hike in the snow.
See you on the next one. :)

rainy evening at lake como. november 2019.

We had a little extra time after hiking up Tin Cup today, so I decided to swing by Lake Como on our way home. As we got closer to the lake, the wind and rain were moving in, and the temperature was quickly dropping. When I realized the weather wasn't going to be what I had expected, I decided to go anyway. And I'm so glad we went. When I'm busy looking for fair-weather days for hiking, I can sometimes forget how enjoyable the atmosphere of inclement weather can be. One sure way to be reminded is to just get out in the middle of it. Which is what we did today. So much so, I didn't want to leave! :)

Picture
I discovered this whimsical rock spiral on the beach and enjoyed following the path to the rock cairn in the center. Just a little carefree fun that brought me an extra smile. :)

Picture
Enjoying the moment. -- The evening chill with the wind and the rain as we followed the shoreline listening to the water splashing on the rocks was an awesome experience to end our day. A little reminder that nature is beautiful in all sorts of weather. Enjoy! :)

Beautiful view further into the canyon up Rock Creek past Lake Como. I need to come back and see this with snow. :)

Our morning began with rain and a rainbow as we were getting ready to leave for our hike.

Como Peaks have a bit of snow now. You get a glimpse of one along the trail.
Picture
There's always something to catch my eye for a photo, and if there is rock and water around, you are sure to find me there!
Picture
I love the beauty and contrast of water and moss!

Drying out drenched pant legs in a rock field after pushing through a lot of overgrowth on the trail still wet from the rain.
Picture
A lovely place with a view (and wind) we discovered up and away from the trail on our off-trail excursion.

We're always checking our topo maps to see exactly where we are and what is in view. :)

Three female mergansers enjoying a bit of sunshine on their little rock island in the lake. A little brisk for swimming. ;)

Hiking along the north side of Lake Como on our way out. There's water at the east end, and mostly mud at the west end.

As usual, we had a blast! Until next time... :)
