The girls and I had an enjoyable little hike up to Blodgett Overlook last month.

We not only got to see the beautiful view overlooking a portion of Blodgett Canyon again, but we were also entertained by the antics of several not-so-very-shy chipmunks.

The chipmunks were quite comical to watch, and we enjoyed observing them doing what they naturally do while not being very afraid of us.

We even got to see a couple of baby chipmunks come out of hiding for a bit. They certainly added some extra fun to our hike that day.

Most of the chipmunks kept darting around quite a bit, but one little fellow in particular seemed to enjoy our company as much as we enjoyed his. He tended to hang around a bit more than the others. I think he had fun entertaining us for awhile. :)

Although it was nice weather with blue skies and some puffy white clouds when we headed up, there was a 20% chance of thunderstorms that afternoon. When the darker clouds began rolling in and we started hearing thunder, we decided it was time to skedaddle back down. Rain and thunder don't bother me, but I don't much care for lightning and high winds when I'm out on the mountain. Back to safer ground we go.

I took this picture on our way back down as the clouds continued moving over the top of us and over the valley below to the Sapphire Mountains on the other side. We continued to hear thunder a bit here and there and felt a few drops of rain, but we made it back to the trailhead before things let loose. While driving home, things really came undone as it rained hard enough to reduce visibility to the point we almost had to pull over and wait it out. Funny how fast the weather can change out here!
