And always something to see. :)
This isn't exactly wildflowers, but I do love the aspens too. :) Thimbleberry blossom with some remaining raindrops. Indian paintbrush. Always such vibrant colors to brighten things up! And lots of lovely lupine! Another quick hike in the mountains today.
And always something to see. :)

Fred Burr Canyon is a beautiful place to hike in the spring, with the reservoir being a wonderful destination for a day-hike. A friend and I enjoyed having the reservoir and the trail on the way in to ourselves. It was pretty windy and chilly at the reservoir, which is to be expected out here this time of year. Spring in the mountains is definitely a time for taking multiple layers! The snow remaining in the upper elevations adds to the beauty of mountain views. We enjoyed the surrounding views in all directions as we ate lunch in the sunshine. The water is still pretty low this time of year, but it will be filling up soon. God's beauty of nature is all around! :) The creek below a snow-melt waterfall on the northern canyon wall. This portion of the creek was such a gorgeous green! Snow-melt waterfalls are a common sight in the spring. Unlike the mountain stream waterfalls, these are only temporary. The many rock formations add much interest along the way. Round trip distance to the reservoir and back is about 10 miles depending what part you hike around to. Be sure to plan for a few hours so you have time to enjoy it. :) A few pics from a quick little hike up Fred Burr. Hoping to see a moose up here again, but not this time. The only set of tracks ahead of us in the fresh snow on this trek were possibly coyote? Always on the lookout for whatever we might get a chance to see. :)
Because the brush was too thick, there wasn't anywhere to easily get off the trail to go around him at a safe distance or to wait for him to pass us by. We also didn't know if it might be a female with cubs nearby. Cubs or no cubs, I didn't want to chance having a confrontation with any bear, so we made the decision to head back and come again another day. Play it safe and let the bear have the trail this time. :)
