The newly born fawn we recently discovered hidden away in the vegetation near our pond has been on the move. We got an unusual opportunity one evening to observe the mama and another doe teaching the fawn to run and find cover. It looked as though they were playing as they ran back and forth through the open and into the trees, but I quickly realized that they were training this little fawn how to stay safe. I wasn't able to get a photo, as I didn't want to chance interfering with their teaching lesson at the time. But we sure enjoyed watching from a distance.
A couple of days ago we saw the fawn again, this time following its mama as they headed down the fence line to the opening that allows them to pass through to the neighboring property. Keeping a camera handy is definitely a must around here... and being ready to pop out the door at a moment's notice. :)
