Bitter cold is coming extra early!

Cold temps are coming to my part of the world this week (Bitterroot Valley, Montana). We're supposed to hit below 0 temps much earlier than normal. We usually have our first cold snap of negative temps in December, not November! Brrrr! Getting the wood supply ready... it sure is nice to heat with the warmth of wood when the thermometer starts dropping like that. :)

Anyone else supposed to be dipping below zero this week?

It won't get that cold here in north Florida, and I am thankful! I wonder if your cold temps are due to the fluctuating polar vortex that brought extreme cold last winter across most of the United States. I heard that it may be active again this winter. Brrr!

I don't know the cause of our early sub-zero temps this year, but it is normal for our weather to be quite abnormal and unpredictable, no matter what season it is. We've seen it snow here on the 4th of July. Just flurries at the time, but it was snow. There's a saying out here, "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes and it will change." That is so true for the most part. We have seen dramatic changes in weather in such short time frames, over and over again in different seasons, that it doesn't really surprise us much anymore. Out here, you just gotta be ready for anything that comes our way. :)

I have never been in a place that gets to 0 degrees! I have lived in and traveled much of the world, but I was never in Europe when it was that cold. The places I actually lived in were more like a desert or Mediterranean climate. I don't think I would survive in a cold climate ;) Stay warm!

You should come out here just for the experience, Anna. ;) But do bundle up if you do! And keep in mind, that most of the world operates in Celsius. We operate in Fahrenheit in the US, so our negatives need adjusting when comparing with other places around the world. Our -4F equals -20C.

It's not dipping below 0 here, but it has gotten well below freezing already. It's usually not this cold this early.

I'm looking forward to firing up my wood burning stove, but unfortunately, my chimney has a cracked lining tile which needs to be repaired before I use it.
