Brrr... it's getting cold again!

After having some mild winter temps lately, we are in a bit of a deep freeze once again, so I thought this poem that circulates around would be quite fitting to share. :)

A MONTANA POEM

It's winter in Montana,
And the gentle breezes blow.
Seventy miles an hour,
At thirty-five below.

Oh, how I love Montana,
When the snow's up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air,
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave Montana,
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Thanks for stopping by to read and comment, Debbie! :) The different seasons here provide changing views of beauty, as well as a variety of outdoor recreational activities. I just can't imagine what it would be like to live where you never get any snow, as I never have. But I do understand why people would want to live without the extreme cold. We have woodstoves and lots of blankets to keep us toasty warm inside, and we bundle up and dress in layers to keep us warm outside. :) I would prefer for fall to be a little longer and winter a little shorter, but I do like the changing seasons. How I would miss the snow if we never had it. Such glorious beauty a fresh snow brings in the middle of winter... especially in the mountains! :)

Giggle! I have never lived or even visited a really harshly cold climate. So that is what it is like??? ;)

Yes, Anna, that is what it really is like at times. It seems so strange to me for someone to have never experienced the cold and snow that we do. Montana extremes vary by what part of Montana you are in... but we have personally experienced this poem quite literally in many ways. I've experienced winds of 70 miles an hour, and temperatures as low as 25 below zero (colder with wind chill)... I've trudged through snow up to my butt (wishing I had snowshoes at the time!), and although I haven't had my nose actually frozen shut, I've felt everything inside freeze up instantly with the first breath where you literally have to breathe through a scarf to remain outside. I don't prefer it that cold, but I am thankful for it at times to kill off pesky germs that cause sickness and pesky things that kill our trees. And the beauty when out in the mountains after a fresh snow is just so breathtakingly beautiful, there are few things that compare! Yesterday we went out again to the same place in this photo I took last year. I will do a blog post soon and share some photos from our hike. :)
